• Andalusia and Covington County is currently under a Hurricane Watch and a Tropical Storm Warning. Currently, Covington County is expected to experience 58 to 73 mph winds as the storm moves inlands. Rainfall totaling 4 to 6 inches also is expected, which could produce flooding.

• The City of Andalusia will not make a determination about opening a shelter until more is known about the storm’s path. Mayor Earl Johnson is constantly monitoring weather projections, and will make that call on Friday.

• If a shelter is opened, it will be announced on the City’s web page, social media page, and by local media. Residents will need to bring their own water, snacks, blankets, medications, etc. No pets will be allowed.

• The City of Andalusia will operate normal garbage schedules on Friday.

• Andalusia City Hall, Andalusia Public Library, the Department of Leisure Services, and the Adult Activity Center will be closed on Friday. The library also will be closed on Saturday.

• Administrative personnel will remain on duty to address any problems that might arise as a result of Hurricane Isaias.

• The City’s first responders will work normal shifts, and our utilities crews will be on standby for possible outages. If the power goes out, there is no need to call City Hall, as the appropriate personnel will be immediately alerted. We will begin restoring any outages as soon as it is safe to do so.

• Andalusia City Schools has announced it will dismiss classes at 11 a.m. on Friday, Oct. 9. The APPLE program will not be open on Friday.

• Mayor Johnson encourages all local residents to make preparations now.
